David Lorms, CAE, principal for Core Concept Solutions, LLC has been committed to creating and fostering the development of collaborative relationships within associations for more than 30 years. His experience at every level of association staff life, from field staff and fund raising through senior staff and Executive Director at state and national levels provides the basis for his span of organizational understanding. His passion for enabling every member’s voice to be heard and valued within the organization is a hallmark of his work. This approach helps transition organizations toward a closer alignment to meet the changing expectations of their membership segments. He is committed to understanding the client’s business and their view of issues from the inside out to ensure a successful outcome.
David’s approach requires the client organization to be an active part of the success strategy development process. He probes deeply to compel clients to begin thinking differently about the real focus of their questions. David has developed a skilled sense of listening for the real question behind the question to enable associations to reach their fullest potential on behalf of their members.
His extensive association knowledge and capacity to link larger association issues with the day-to-day issues facing members utilizes a collaborative methodology among teams of staff and volunteers to create settings where members can thrive. Pursuing a vision of encouraging and inspiring leadership, strategic thinking and volunteer service within associations and their communities he is committed to creating an environment where knowledge sharing and generation of extraordinary member connection opportunities are key outcomes. This collaborative technique has also been able to provide value in staff-to-staff interactions where David has served as a coach and mentor.
David earned his CAE from ASAE in 1991. He believes the continuing recertification process serves as a reminder of the need for continuing personal and professional growth for every professional. David remains an active member of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), the International Association of Facilitators (IAF), the Organization Development Network (ODN), the Mid Atlantic Facilitators Network (MAFN), and the Chesapeake Bay Organizational Development Network (COBDN). His charitable work includes serving as a board member for Beacon House DC. He is also an Independently Affiliated Consultant with Transition Management Consulting (TMC). Transition Management Consulting provides just in time, customized services to meet imminent or urgent needs for executive-level management for associations and nonprofits.
His degree (with highest honors) in Public Administration from California State University in Chico has been augmented by a range of experience including sales experiences in hard and soft goods, advertising, and door-to-door sales, political campaigns, teaching and four years as a cook on a submarine. The richness of these life experiences further enables him to understand issues at play between an association and its members.
